Reminder

This is a reprint of an email of items we should all know heading into the new year.

Check the calendar tab on this page to find out what is going on each week.

Hi Everyone,

Here are a few odds and ends that you need to know about as we jump into this year’s scouting activities.
·         Uniforms: This year we are putting a heavy emphasis on the importance of uniforms. Unless cubs are attending a winter meeting outside at camp stone and will be dressed in winter jackets, they are required to wear uniforms to all scouting functions. This includes the Cub Shirt, blue and red group necker (we distribute), and woggle (we make). Donna Andrews has kindly offered to put together a group order for cubs needing to purchase shirts, the price of which is $31.49. Donnas email address is dandrews7240@gmail.com . Please bring money and size confirmations to this Wednesdays cub meeting or contact her to make arrangements.
·         Cub Books: These books give cubs all the information they need to get the program badges. They cost 11.19, but I’ve pre-purchased a bunch and if you give me 10$ we’ll call er’ even. I bring several to each cub meeting.
·         Emails: This is our primary means of communication. If this method doesn’t work for you, a good way around this is to make arrangements with another parent and check in with them by phone prior to meetings to see if there are any changes to schedule or location.
·         Leadership and Screening: As a parent, to participate in any cub meeting (even just hanging around to watch) you need to be screened and registered. This involves filling out a volunteer form, agreeing to a criminal records check and completing online training. We can always use more volunteers (especially at the beavers level) and are grateful for any parent or relative who makes the time to do so.
·         Program Funding Assistance: In years past, if a youth could not afford to register for scouting programs or pay for uniforms or books, the group would apply to the No One Left Behind Fund on their behalf to cover these costs. Those funds are still available, but however, they MUST be applied for by the parent now. This can be done here: http://www.scouts.ca/ca/no-one-left-behind . If you require access to these funds please apply ASAP.
·         Group Meetings: These happen the third Thursday of every month (except December and May) 7pm at Resker hall, and are essential for keeping scouting alive in Kimberley. You do not need screening to help out with these events and parent involvement is strongly encouraged.
That’s all I can think of.
Any questions, please drop me a line!

Jenna
